5 Tips for Throwing the Perfect Outdoor Event

Now that blue skies and sunshine have finally arrived, it’s time to clean up the barbeque and start enjoying some outdoor events. Whether you’re throwing a large backyard wedding or a small intimate party, the key to the perfect outdoor event is to keep things simple. Here are five tips on how to choose the best menu, furniture, lighting and more to make your outdoor event a success!

BBQ Grilling

1. Menu

When deciding on a menu, don’t choose too many food options. Instead, select a few amazing dishes that will wow your guests. A smaller menu means you won’t have to worry about various cooking times or temperatures, plus meal prep will be so much easier! Also, choosing items that are grill friendly is a great way to keep the mess to a minimum. Whether you prefer grilling with charcoal or propane, we have a variety of rental options that will meet all of your barbequing needs.

Need some ideas on what to cook? Drizzle some balsamic dressing on eggplant, zucchini, peppers, and onion and throw them on the grill. This recipe is easy, healthy, and delicious.

Another great menu choice is Cheesy Garlic Toast! To make this garlic bread with a twist, combine:

• 1/4 cup parmesan cheese (60 ml)
• 1/4 cup mayonnaise (60 ml)
• 2 table spoons parsley
• 5 crushed; garlic cloves
• 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)

Spread the mixture on a baguette, wrap it in some tin foil, throw it on the barbeque, and cook until golden brown. It is a crowd pleaser that will have your guests thanking you!

2. Furniture

Making sure that your guests are comfortable and have a place to enjoy the amazing food is an important factor when throwing an outdoor event. For larger spaces, Pedersen’s Farm House Tables paired with Vineyard Chairs would work great. It’s a setup that is both romantic and rustic.

For smaller gatherings, use our Round Tables and set them with our Traditional Gingham Check Linens and Napkins. It’s a basic setup perfect for family barbeques. Also, if you’re having a gathering with children, be sure to rent some kids tables and chairs! It’s a great way to make the kids feel special while giving the adults their space.

3. Lighting

One of the easiest ways to make a big impact with your event is lighting. There are many options to choose from but string lights are one of our favorites. This shot of the UBC Botanical Garden shows the romantic atmosphere string lights create.

4. Heating

Summer events are great, but things can heat up and cool off quickly! For events taking place during the day, our Market Umbrellas are a great way to keep guests and food stations cool and shaded. For events taking place in the evening, our patio heaters are a great way to keep guests warm and comfortable. If you’re looking for a simpler option, blankets work great too. Choose them in the color theme of your event and hang them over the backs of chairs.

5. Expect the Unexpected

Prepare for the unexpected! Yes, you might do your best at following the weather forecast but ensure that you have a plan B in case it does rain. Either have a place to set up inside or have a tent on standby. If the weather does turn, you’ll be thankful that you’re prepared.

Outdoor Party

So there you have it. Plan your menu ahead of time and ensure it’s simple and delicious. Choose furniture that’s going to accommodate the number of expected guests and hang some string lights to create a magical atmosphere. Finally, make sure you’ve planned for the unexpected. If you follow these tips, your outdoor event is going to be the hit of the summer!
