2020 Events: Physically Distanced Party Layouts
- Jun 15, 2020
For those that have had to postpone large events in 2020, our hearts are with you and we look forward to helping you create those large events when it’s safe to do so again. In the meantime, there are still ways to celebrate special occasions in a way that is safe and that follows government guidelines.
We’ve come up with four physically distanced party layouts to help you create celebrations within your own backyard. Before getting into the design aspect of things, the first thing to do is ensure you’re following the latest government guidelines on gathering so you know how many people you can safely host. Second, implementing the following protocols will help ensure the safety of guests.
Protocols to implement in a backyard celebration:
- Maintain a minimum of 6ft between family groups/households.
- Seat family groups together for sit down parties.
- Have a variety of seating and standing room.
- Have hand sanitizer and masks readily available.
- Have a separate entrance and exit when possible to allow guests ample space to maintain physical distancing.
- Have guests put wine charms on their glasses or provide disposable markable cups to ensure no one shares glasses.
- Provide individually packaged snacks.
- If providing a buffet, have hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of the food station and ask guests to use it at the beginning and end of serving their food.
Ensuring that there is enough space for people to maintain their physical distance is very important. However; remember that households don’t need to physically distance from each other. That means you can seat family groups together and focus on creating that distance between tables! That is what we have done in the following party layouts.
1. The first design is an example of how to host a physically distanced sit-down party for 14 people. We have provided seating for three families of four and one table for two. The design features three 48” round tables, a 30” round high-top table, and a heater to keep guests warm into the evening.
2. The second design is an example of how to design a small party with both sit-down and standing room so people have lots of space while maintaining distance. This features a 48" round table, 30" high-top table, and a market umbrella to provide some shade!

3. The third layout is great for a party of a few couples! It features three 30” high-top tables all physically distanced. Pair the tables with barstools for seating or have the tables on their own for a cocktail party.

4. The fourth design is an example of another sit-down party but this features a high-top table and two 6ft rectangle tables, which are great for larger households. There are a variety of ways you can place the tables depending on the shape of your yard. Just ensure that there is various way to enter and exit the area while maintaining that physical distance.
